| Year of Mozart in the St Nicholas Church on Lesser Town |
In 2006 we will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the day on which one of the greatest composers in the world, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was born. This master of exquisite melodies, the author of many operas, symphonies, masses and the most famous Requiem in history, considered Prague as his city, a city that always accepted, understood and loved his music. It is not by chance that his beloved Josephine lived in a quiet house near Prague, that his opera, “The Magic Flute”, which was not accepted by Vienna, was very successful in Prague and that the premier of “Don Giovanni” was held there with the composer himself leading proceedings.
For this reason, we have prepared a ‘Year of Mozart’ in the Church of St. Nicholas on Lesser Town, where we will be commemorating some of his greatest spiritual compositions such as the great Mass in C minor, KV 427, the Coronation Mass, KV 317, Vesperae Solenne De Confessore, KV 339, and others, such as for example the famous motet, Ave Verum, KV 618, of the motet, Exsultate Jubilate, KV 165, and of course his Requiem, KV 626. The series of concerts will open on Easter Sunday with the Coronation Mass and the last concert will take place on 14 December 2006, on the day when in 1791 a funeral service was held at the Church of St. Nicholas in the Lesser Town for W. A. Mozart.
Concert dates: 16 April (Easter Sunday), 13 May, 10 June, 30 September, 28 October and 14 December
Concerts begin at 6 pm, 14 December at 5 pm
